Projects / Riverside Housing Quarter

Sidell Architects were appointed in 2017 to create a masterplan and scheme design for this significant riverside site. Various other proposals had previously been considered but had proved not to be viable, and our brief was to maximise value while creating a much needed residential and student environment, sympathetic to the historic setting in a conservation area.

The intention of the proposed master plan is to provide a new mixed use scheme – a vibrant new public amenity – the creation of an environment to work, live and study. The scheme incorporates high quality employment space and retail on the ground floor with student accommodation above. It offers the general public a lively river frontage walk linking through existing mature planting and new landscaped courtyards to the streets beyond.

The commercial content  includes retail, restaurants and cafes along the water’s edge and offices within the complex, accessed along a pedestrian gallery. The new community will provide student rooms as both clusters and studios and private apartments arranged as residential terraces  around garden squares facing the river.
