Projects / Lacon & Warner House

These two adjacent buildings in Theobalds Road, Holborn were originally built for the Ministry of Defence in the 1940s. Our brief was to upgrade the buildings to modern office standards and specification, which involved extensive and innovative integration of new build into the existing fabric. A major issue was the existing low (3m) floor to floor dimension into which contemporary services had to be installed while maintaining acceptable ceiling heights.
The buildings include full height glazed thermal chimney facades to the central entrance area and the creation of atria from lightwells, using EFTE for the atria roofing.
The completed buildings appear contemporary in every respect and were let to Warner Bros and Nabarros for whom we also designed the Cat B fit-out.
