Projects / Windsor Castle

Following a competition with a selected group of architects the SG designs were chosen for the restoration and rebuilding of St George’s Hall and private chapel areas of Windsor Castle destroyed by the fire in 1992.

The proposals introduced the extensive use of structural green oak creating a unique blend of new, traditional and existing architecture. Over 200 craftsmen were involved in the completion of this project that has received numerous international and national architectural awards.

Working with the committees of the Royal Household the design team was led by Giles Downes, who was awarded the CVO for his work.
